Other information about this county
Kent is known as 'The Garden of England' so make sure you ask your chosen wedding venue to include the local ingredients of apples and beer somewhere on the menu or behind the bar!
With the town of Maidstone in the middle, the county has rolling hills through to coastal towns and ports. Inland, Kent boasts some of England's prettiest villages and some of our most attractive and leafiest countryside. Most of the Weald - the area between the North and South Downs is now designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
If you want a town or city as the setting for your wedding, you can try the historic cathedral city of Canterbury, the towns of Chatham, Rochester, Dover, Tunbridge Wells and the seaside resorts of Folkestone, Margate and Ramsgate.
If you want to theme your wedding, you could take inspiration from the medieval pilgrimages to Canterbury, immortalised in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
Your family and friends may want to stay on in the area after your celebrations, they would enjoy the country houses of Broadstairs or Chartwell or Dover, Hever or Leeds castle.
In terms of transport links for your honeymoon or for guests coming from France, Dover to Calais is only 23 miles across the English Channel or the SeaCat goes from Folkestone to Boulogne. There are also good road and rail links to London.
