To help you decide on wedding music before you approach a professional musician, visit our Amazon store.

Whether it's jazz, rock and roll or rap - you will find a wide range of gay friendly musicians in this section, perfect to make your wedding go with a swing.

Obviously musicians can only do one wedding at a time and often they will be gigging anyway on a Saturday night, so make sure you book them well in advance.

Be really definite about the type of music you want, how many slow numbers, your favourite music, a mix of sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties and naughties.

The music business can seem very relaxed and funky but it is still important to put your requirements in writing and get a contract - otherwise you might have Aunt Flo entertaining you on the old Joanna!

Find out how long they are willing to play for. Think about where they are going to be positioned, you don't want them to drown out conversation but you want to hear what you've paid for.

Check that they have all the equipment needed or make sure they liaise with the venue on this.

When they are not playing do you want some recorded music in the background - who is going to orchestrate this, as it were. You could also have a DJ.

Often venues will have resident DJs or ones that they can recommend - they will know about the facilities at the venue so could be a good bet.
