Information about the area
Manchester is one of the UK's most gay friendly cities with plenty of hotels to choose from for your wedding venue.
Greater Manchester also incorporates the towns of Oldham, Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Rochdale, the city of Salford, Stockport and Altrincham.
Manchester is famous for its canals and Canal Street is the area known as the 'gay village'. You can also get married at Manchester United - the famous football club.
Famous gay and lesbian icons from the region include singer Gracie Fields, Emmeline Pankhurst, the leader of the Suffragette Movement and Anthony Burgess, a member of a Soviet spy ring in the 1950s and 60s. In more recent times, Manchester was the setting for groundbreaking gay TV serial, Queer as Folk.
If your friends and family are making a weekend of it, they could go to a concert at the famous Hallé Orchestra, visit the Lowry Art Gallery or the Imperial War Museum North. Or if you want to continue the party all weekend, you could all go dancing at one of Manchester's many gay clubs.
In terms of transport to your gay friendly wedding venue, Manchester has the UK's third largest airport. It's a 20-minute drive, or 15 minutes by train to the centre of the city. It is also well connected by train and road links.
