Green wedding venues

We all want to do our bit to save the planet and now you can even make sure you have a green wedding.

Questions to ask venues include how much recycling they do, where they source their food and what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint.

The venues listed below are all doing something green, whether it's providing organic food, recycling or using energy efficiently.

If you would like to be included in this list, please email us.

Over the Rainbow

Apart from being a Vegetarian Guest house, Over the Rainbow, has acheived a level 2 'Green Dragon' Award for environmental management. The measures put in place to achieve this award are:

  • We use environmentally friendly cleaning products
  • Minimise the use of natural resources, (particularly water, heating oil and electricity)
  • Recycle and compost waste wherever possible
  • Use solar heating for hot water

South Farm

We grow the majority of our food for the catering on site, especially fruit, vegetables, eggs, pork and trout. All are products are free range and organic.

We are very conservation minded. This includes managing a local nature reserve. We secured its protected status and have planted all of the trees and hedges on site. Now we are building an otter holt.

For the ultimate in recycling, our effluent goes into a reed bed to be recycled - is that too much information!

London Canal Museum

We are hoping very shortly to be accredited as a green museum in the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This will give us an assessed rating for eco-friendliness.

To meet the scheme's targets, we recycle as much waste as possible. We have also insulated the loft with a recycled material. Our aim is to reduce our carbon footprint.

We hope people booking their civil partnership will consider the importance of having a green wedding.
