Essex County Council has produced a publication, Celebrate Your Essex, a guide to civil partnerships and commitment ceremonies.
Within easy reach of London, Essex is a perfect county to find a wedding venue. There are easy rail and road links from London and the Midlands. In the north of the county, the port of Harwich provides a direct sea link with Holland and the rest of Europe whilst Stansted - London's third airport - provides a hub of cheap air tickets for those travelling from further afield.
The county has an abundance of quiet country lanes, historic towns and pretty villages. The open farmland, rivers and ancient trees, were the inspiration for the landscape artist, John Constable.
If you want a seaside wedding, then you can try Clacton and Southend-on-Sea.
If you want inspiration for the music at your gay wedding, Gustav Holst composed 'The Planets' while living in the area or for more modern music, Colchester gave birth to Damon Albarn and Graham Coxton, famous for forming the band, Blur.
